San Ysidro Border Station Project
The San Ysidro Border Station is located between San Ysidro, California (near San Diego) and Tijuana, Mexico. Known as the world’s busiest port of entry, it supports six southbound traffic lanes into Mexico and 24 northbound lanes into the United States. Expansion is needed to maintain adequate service to the public using the border crossing and to increase operational efficiency, security, and safety. Four proposed options for expansion call for a new northbound Administration Building that will provide up to 50 inspection booths. A new southbound facility will have 12 inspection booths (expandable to 24). This matches Mexico’s proposal to relocate their border station to the Virginia Avenue/El Chaparral commercial crossing, west of the existing buildings. Expansion Project Time Frames
