The Office of Electric Transmission & Distribution was established August 10, 2003 and combines DOE's electricity transmission and distribution (T&D) programs and research in a single, focused office.
The mission of this office is to lead a national effort to modernize and expand America's electric delivery system. This will be accomplished by actions that eliminate bottlenecks, increase reliability, foster competitive electricity markets, and expand technology choices. Actions include research, development, demonstration, modeling, data collection and analysis, policies and regulations, education and outreach, and technical coordination with other offices and agencies. These are carried out through public-private partnerships with electric and gas utilities, Federal and state agencies, manufacturers, national laboratories, universities, consumers, interest groups, and other stakeholders.
