Nuclear Safety

The Department of Energy (DOE) is committed to safe operation of its nuclear facilities and activities. To ensure safe operation, the Office of Nuclear and Facility Safety Policy establishes nuclear safety requirements and associated guidance for DOE nuclear facilities and activities through a combination of public rules and DOE directives (policies, orders, manuals, guides, and technical standards).

We also work with non-government standards bodies to develop consensus standards that can be used to maintain and enhance the safety of our facilities and activities.
