The Sustainable Fisheries Division of the NMFS Northwest Regional Office administers and implements Regional programs under the Magnuson-Stevens Fishery Conservation and Management Act, the U.S.-Canada Pacific Salmon Treaty, the Northern Pacific Halibut Act, the Marine Mammal Protection Act, the Endangered Species Act, the Mitchell Act, the Interjurisdictional Fisheries Act, the Anadromous Fish Conservation Act, the Albacore Tuna Treaty with Canada, the Saltonstall-Kennedy Program and other statutory authorities involving the conservation and utilization of marine resources in the Northwest Region. The Division also implements federal trust responsibilities for Northwest treaty Indian tribes and their exercise of treaty fishing rights and subsistence harvests of marine mammals.
