2005 Dietary Guidelines for Americans (sixth edition)

The Dietary Guidelines for Americans are the cornerstone of Federal nutrition policy and nutrition education activities. They are jointly issued by USDA and DHHS and updated every 5 years.

The Department of Health and Human Services (HHS) and the Department of Agriculture (USDA) have begun the process of developing the sixth edition of Nutrition and Your Health: Dietary Guidelines for Americans. A notice published on May 15, 2003 in the Federal Register announces the establishment of a Dietary Guidelines Advisory Committee and invites nominations for the Committee. The HHS and USDA Secretaries have designated 13 professionals to serve on the Dietary Guidelines Advisory Committee. The Committee is responsible for reviewing the Dietary Guidelines for Americans report, which is published every five years.
