Joint
Communications Support Element
Joint Communications Support Element (JCSE), headquartered
at Macdill Air Force Base, is a subordinate unified command
of U.S. Joint Forces Command.
The
commanding officer and his staff provide joint task force
and joint special operations task force command, control,
communications and computer systems (C4) support for America's
premier war-fighting commands and the Joint Staff. They
also provide simultaneous communications support for two
joint task force (JTF) headquarters and two joint special
operations task force (JSOTF) headquarters.
JCSE
was initially formed as the Communications Support Element
(CSE) in 1961 to support the U.S. Strike Command (USSTRICOM),
Joint Task Force (JTF) headquarters, as a dedicated communications
resource. USSTRICOM was reorganized in 1972 as the U.S.
Readiness Command (REDCOM) and the CSE became the JCSE.
At that time JCSE was placed under the operational control
of the Joint Chiefs of Staff but remained attached to
Readiness Command for logistical and administrative support.
In May 1987, Readiness Command was dissolved and JCSE
was reassigned to the U.S. Central Command (USCENTCOM)
with the same support relationship. In October 1998, JCSE
was transferred to the U.S. Atlantic Command, now known
as U.S. Joint Forces Command (USJFCOM).
JCSE
is comprised of five squadrons and one detachment; two
operations squadrons known as 1st JCS and 2nd JCS, two
Air National Guard squadrons known as 290 JCSS and 224
JCSS, the Headquarters and Support Squadron (HSS), and
the Communications Support Detachment (CSD).
JCSE
has provided responsive and reliable tactical communications
support from nearly every part of the world. Due to its
diverse tasking and flexible capabilities to provide reliable
communications from anywhere in the world, JCSE is "the
voice heard around the world.
