Abstract

Founded in 1984, this organization's mission is to speak for the best interests of abused and neglected children in the courts. There are approximately 710 CASA programs across the country with some 42,000 women and men serving as volunteers in these programs. CASA programs evolved out of a WA judge's concern over making decisions about abused and neglected children's lives without sufficient information. He conceived the idea of using trained community volunteers to speak for the best interests of these children in court.
