Abstract

The International Society on Hypertension in Blacks (ISHIB) was originally founded to respond to the problem of high blood pressure among ethnic groups but has expanded it's organizational scope to include diabetes, stroke, lipid disorders, renal disease and other related cardiovascular diseases. The objectives of the society are to: promote public awareness of the harmful effects of hypertension, especially among ethnic populations; develop health-related programs to improve the quality of life in ethnic populations worldwide; educate the public on ways prevent the complications of hypertension and other related cardiovascular diseases; stimulate research and clinical investigation; and disseminate scientific findings to aid in the understanding of differences in hypertension among ethnic populations.
