Office for Civil RightsNational Origin DiscriminationThe HHS Office for Civil Rights (OCR) works to ensure that health care and human services providers who are recipients of HHS Federal financial assistance comply with Federal laws prohibiting discrimination based on national origin. OCR helps to ensure that administrative procedures do not deter or deny eligible national origin groups from obtaining benefits, and provides technical assistance to recipients on request. OCR also conducts investigations to determine whether neutral policies or practices have a disparate impact on national origin groups. Information on OCR's work in the area of nondiscriminatory access by limited-English proficient (LEP) persons is found on a separate web-page, www.hhs.gov/ocr/lep.
Due to the nature of OCR's responsibilities, most of our programs overlap with one another. We have done our best to ensure each webpage has as much information as possible. In order to make the fullest use of our website, please take the time to look at other pages on our website for information that is similar in nature.
