Company offers rechargeable battery recycling free to public agencies

ATLANTA (Jan. 6) -- Public agencies can participate in the Rechargeable Battery Recycling Corp.īs battery recycling free of charge beginning this month.

The corporation omitted fees associated with its community-recycling program in 2001. It is now offering the free service to public agencies, including federal, state and local governments, public hospitals, police and fire departments and military institutions.

The Rechargeable Battery Recycling Corp. will handle the collection of small portable rechargeable batteries including nickel-cadmium, nickel metal hydride, lithium ion and small sealed lead batteries. The group will include collection kits consisting of two or five boxes at no charge. Each box holds about 40 pounds of rechargeable batteries. The corporation also will pay for all shipping, materials, processing and recycling costs. More information is available at www.rbrc.org.
