Vision and Mission

Vision

To be a world-recognized Center of excellence, a leader for innovation and a forum for government, industry, and academic cooperation in the development and improvement of transportation and logistics systems.

Mission

To anticipate future national, state, local, and international transportation and logistics issues and requirements, to develop tools and technologies addressing them for our clients, and to be a catalyst for innovation in transportation technologies and management processes to make the transportation system safer and more effective and efficient.

In carrying out this mission, we support national transportation-related initiatives and understand, anticipate, and create awareness of national and international transportation trends and issues. We serve as a federal bridge for transportation expertise between industry, academia, and other government agencies so as to enhance the nation's capabilities to meet future transportation requirements.

Volpe Center analyses and deploys technology for the Technology Community and assesses the needs/requirements of the Transportation Communities

This Mission is based upon the Volpe Center's authorizing legislation:

The Center is authorized to "perform research, development, test, evaluation, analysis, and other related activities as the Secretary may direct for the Department and other Government agencies and, when approved by the Secretary or his designee, for State and local governments, other public authorities, private sources and foreign countries."
