Volpe Center Support to the National Park Service (NPS)

The Volpe National Transportation Systems Center is a fee-for-service agency within the U.S. Department of Transportation; we provide public agencies with knowledge and expertise on advanced transportation technologies and innovative service concepts, from a governmental perspective. Under a Memorandum of Understanding executed by the Secretary of Transportation and the Secretary of Interior, the Volpe Center is available to help the National Park Service address transportation system needs and priorities.

Volpe Center skills and interests are well aligned with NPS needs. Our staff's wide range of technical capabilities - from transportation systems planning, to vehicle and fuel technologies, to environmental assessment, to traffic and transit operations management - are ideally suited to NPS needs. The Volpe Center works cooperatively with the Federal Lands Highway Program, the Federal Transit Administration, and the NPS Denver Service Center.

Beginning with an initial project at Independence National Historical Park in Philadelphia, the Volpe Center has demonstrated how it can help the NPS resolve complex transportation challenges. This site illustrates how the Volpe Center can assist the National Park Service with its transportation initiatives, especially under the Alternative Transportation Plan (ATP). It outlines Volpe Center capabilities, our NPS "virtual project team," and discusses some past successes of which we are very proud. Throughout, there are links to the Volpe Center's main web site, where you can learn more about the Center itself and browse through our Work Portfolio to learn more about relevant project work we have performed for other agencies.
