HCUP databases are available for purchase through the HCUP Central Distributor. Prospective purchasers and all persons with access to the databases are required to read and sign a Data Use Agreement. Payment must be received before the databases are shipped.

Full instructions for purchasing the HCUP databases are provided in the application kits. Application kits are provided in Adobe® Acrobat® (PDF) format. PDF files require the Adobe® Acrobat® Reader^TM, which can be downloaded free of charge from Adobe®. (PDF Help). Application kits are available for the following HCUP databases:

• Nationwide Inpatient Sample (NIS) starting in 1988 (PDF file, 181 KB)
• Kids' Inpatient Database (KID) for 1997 and 2000 (PDF file, 246 KB)
• State Inpatient Databases (SID) starting in 1995 (PDF file, 613 KB)
• State Ambulatory Surgery Databases (SASD) starting in 1997 (PDF file, 613 KB)
