2004089	ECLS-K Longitudinal Kindergarten-Third Grade Public-Use Data File and Electronic Code Book This CD-ROM contains kindergarten, first and third grade public-use data from the Early Childhood Longitudinal Study, Kindergarten Class of 1998-99 (ECLS-K). The CD-ROM contains an electronic code book (ECB), data files, and survey and ECB documentation for the first five waves of the ECLS-K. This data file and ECB will be most useful for researchers interested in changes in children's experiences and achievement across school years. Researchers interested in conducting cross-sectional or within grade analyses should use the separate base year (kindergarten), first grade, and third grade data files and ECBs.	9/14/2004

2004378	Data File: State Library Agencies Survey: Fiscal Year 2003 This data file contains data on state library agencies in the 50 states and the District of Columbia for Fiscal Year 2003. The data were collected through the State Library Agencies Survey, a voluntary survey conducted annually by the National Center for Education Statistics (NCES). Data were collected on state library agency identification, governance, public service hours, service outlets, collections, library service transactions, library development transactions, services to other libraries in the state, allied operations, staff, income, expenditures, and electronic services and information.	9/9/2004

2004105	Parent and Family Involvement in Education Survey (PFI) Data File from the National Household Education Surveys Program of 2003 This data file contains information collected through PFI fielded as part of NHES:2003. The data contain information about students in kindergarten through twelfth grade and focuses on parental and family involvement in their education. Questions were asked about parent and family involvement in the students' schools, and about educational activities students engaged in with their parents and families outside of school. The data file contains approximately 12,500 cases.	8/27/2004

2004100	National Household Education Surveys Program of 2001-03: Electronic Codebook and Data Files Two surveys were fielded in 2003 as part of the National Household Education Surveys Program (NHES). These were the Parent and Family Involvement in Education Survey (PFI) and the Adult Education for Work-Related Reasons Survey (AEWR). Three surveys were fielded in 2001 as part of NHES. These were the Adult Education and Lifelong Learning Survey (AELL), the Before- and After-School Programs and Activities Survey (ASPA) and the Early Childhood Program Participation Survey (ECPP). The data, data documentation, and software to help search through and convert the data from these surveys into SPSS, SAS, or STATA files are available on CD, and the data files and documentation can also be downloaded directly from this website.	8/27/2004

2004106	Adult Education for Work-Related Reasons Survey Data File of the National Household Education Surveys Program of 2003 Adult Education for Work-Related Reasons Survey (AEWR) was fielded as part of NHES:2003. Approximately 12,700 adults were interviewed about the types of training they had taken in the last 12 months for work-related reasons. Data were collected about participation in college and university degree or certificate programs taken for work-related reasons, postsecondary vocational/technical diploma or degree programs taken for work-related reasons, apprenticeships, work-related courses, and work-related informal learning. In addition, the survey explored factors associated with participation or nonparticipation in these activities.	8/27/2004

2004016	Progress in International Reading Literacy Study (PIRLS) 2001 National Data File This CD-ROM contains PIRLS 2001 public-use data for the United States in ASCII format. It also contains a user's guide and an electronic codebook.	8/9/2004

2004376	Data File, Restricted Use: Public Libraries Survey: Fiscal Year 2002 The Public Libraries Survey is conducted annually by the National Center for Education Statistics through the Federal-State Cooperative System for Public Library Data. The data are collected by a network of state data coordinators appointed by the chief officers of state library agencies in the 50 States, the District of Columbia, and the outlying areas. Data are collected on population of legal service area, service outlets, public service hours, library materials, total circulation, circulation of children’s materials, reference transactions, library visits, children’s program attendance, electronic services and information, staff, operating income, operating expenditures, capital outlay, and more.	7/30/2004

2002001	Civics Education Study 1999 (CD-ROM) The International Comparisons program has released the CIVIC EDUCATION STUDY 1999 (CD-ROM). The Civic Education Study (CivEd), conducted in 1999, provides information on U.S. ninth-graders knowledge about democratic practices and institutions in relationship to students in 27 other participating countries. In addition, CivEd provides data measuring ninth-grade students’ attitudes toward democracy, national identity, international relations, and social cohesion and diversity. The CD-ROM contains the U.S. national data, Electronic Codebook, and U.S. User's Guide plus materials describing testing, sampling, data collection and data.	6/4/2004

2004372	1999-2000 Schools and Staffing Survey (SASS) CD-ROM: Public-Use Data with Electronic Codebook The public-use codebook contains the count of responses for each data item and most components of SASS in 1999-2000. This codebook supplements the electronic codebook on the SASS CD-ROM by using the exact text of the questionnaire item and adding skip instructions as found on the questionnaire.
