NCUA - IRS Partner for Free California WorkshopSeptember 14, 2004, Alexandria,Va. – The National Credit Union Administration announces today it is partnering with the Internal Revenue Service (IRS) to host an Access Across America workshop for credit union officials and staff on September 30, 2004, in San Jose, Calif. The free workshop will bring together credit unions and the Internal Revenue Service to highlight several vital IRS programs credit unions can use to benefit and enhance member services. This IRS - NCUA partnership was formed to enable IRS experts to provide credit unions detailed information pertaining to the Individual Taxpayer Identification Numbers (ITIN) Acceptance Agent process, the VITA Program which offers free tax preparation for taxpayers, the Earned Income Tax Credit (EITC), and how to become an Electronic Return Originator (ERO) to provide electronic tax filing services. During the workshop, applications will be processed on-site for participants interested in becoming an ITIN Acceptance Agent and/or an e-file provider. “We are pleased with the partnership between the IRS and NCUA, which highlights the opportunities to provide vital tax services to credit unions members,” said NCUA Chairman JoAnn Johnson. “We look forward to enhancing this partnership by hosting similar workshops throughout the country.” This workshop will be held at the IRS Field Office in San Jose, at 1775 Story Road, Suite 120, from 8:00 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. Please register online at NCUA’s website www.ncua.gov. A second NCUA - IRS workshop is planned for November 9 in Miami, Fla. The NCUA is the independent federal agency that charters and supervises federal credit unions. NCUA, with the backing of the full faith and credit of the U.S. government, operates the National Credit Union Share Insurance Fund (NCUSIF), insuring the savings of over 83 million account holders in all federal credit unions and many state-chartered credit unions.
