NCUA Chairman Johnson Joins Treasury,
Homeland Security Departments for unveiling of Emergency Financial First Aid Kit

Washington, September 27, 2004 – As part of National Preparedness Month, National Credit Union Administration (NCUA) Chairman JoAnn Johnson joined the U.S. Department of Homeland Security Citizen Corps, Federal Emergency Management Agency, USA Freedom Corps, and Operation HOPE, Inc. as officials unveiled the Emergency Financial First Aid Kit (EFFAK) at a signing ceremony at the U.S. Department of the Treasury on Monday, September 27.

The Emergency Financial First Aid Kit (EFFAK) is a free simple tool to help Americans minimize the financial impact of a natural disaster or national emergency. It helps users identify and organize key financial records and serves as a quick reference to their most important financial documents.

Chairman Johnson urges credit unions to review the free EFFAK resource as a product they may provide to their members and community residents.

“We all recognize with recent natural disasters, planning is important, however, an often overlooked aspect is planning for family emergency financial situations,” said Chairman Johnson in remarks at the ceremony. “The Emergency Financial First Aid Kit is an excellent tool for families to prepare for the future.”

The EFFAK is available on NCUA’s website:

“In the same spirit of the ‘people helping people’ philosophy, credit unions continue to demonstrate compassion in helping their members in time of need, and this is another great opportunity to assist members with financial planning,” said Chairman Johnson.
