Interns are hired for limited, paid appointments--usually 10 weeks during summer months. Many interns obtain positions at CBO after completing graduate degrees. Although most interns are graduate students in public policy, public administration, or economics, the program is also open to exceptional undergraduate students. The deadline for applying is usually in March.

"CBO has been impressive from start to finish: the selection process and internship program were organized and professional throughout; the type of work offered to you is challenging and is similar, if not identical, to that of other full-time analysts; the people at CBO are probably some of the smartest and most down-to-earth people you'll find yourself working with; and in the end, you gain invaluable insight into the federal political and budget processes!" |

"From beginning to end, an internship with CBO is a most rewarding experience. The daily assignments of writing cost estimates, the advice and guidance from CBO staff, and the flexibility to attend speeches by notable policy players on Capitol Hill have all made this internship challenging and exciting. To be involved with the important contributions that CBO makes to the overall budget process is truly fascinating, and I would recommend this internship to anyone who is interested in budget policy." |

"I am working on a project that intends to find the relationship between carbon emissions and GDP growth. This project allows me to apply the econometric knowledge that I acquired throughout my academic study to real-world problems with the help of the economists in my division. This is a wonderful experience." |
