HENRIETTA HOLSMAN FORE
37th Director of the United States Mint
Created by Congress in 1792, the United States Mint is the world's largest
manufacturer of coins, medals and coin products. It is a world-class metal
manufacturing and marketing enterprise with operations in San Francisco,
Denver, Philadelphia, West Point, Fort Knox and the District of Columbia.
The United States Mint generated $1.4 billion in revenue in FY 2003 and
contributed $600 million in earnings to the Treasury.
The United States Mint produced 11.4 billion coins in 2003 for the Nation's
trade and commerce as well as gold, silver and platinum bullion coins for
investors and collectors. Today, the United States Mint ranks as one of the
world’s largest online retailers and is among the most technologically
advanced enterprises in the country.
Director Fore assumed the presidency of the international Mint Directors
Conference (MDC) in 2004. The United States hosted the biennial meeting of
the world’s Mint Directors in San Francisco, CA.
Earlier in her career, she was Chairman and President of Stockton Products, a
manufacturer and distributor of steel products, cement additives and wire building
materials for the U.S. and European construction industry. Manufacturing plants
are located in Las Vegas, Nev.; Burbank, Calif.; San Leandro, Calif.; and Phoenix, Ariz.
She has also served on the Corporate Boards of the Dexter Corporation and HSB Group
Inc., both listed on the New York Stock Exchange.
In addition to having extensive experience in the private sector, she has held
presidential appointments within the U.S. Agency for International Development
as Assistant Administrator for Asia (1991 - 1993) and Assistant Administrator for
Private Enterprise (1990 - 1991). Director Fore was a part of the founding group
for the Financial Services Volunteer Corps, an innovative public-private partnership
in 1989. In 1991, she founded the United States - Asia Environmental Partnership,
a coalition of business, government and community organizations in the United States
and 31 Asian nations. She served as its first chairman from 1991 to 1993.
Director Fore was a Trustee and Executive Committee member at the Center for
Strategic and International Studies. She has specialized in international business
and privatization, Asian trade and economic policy, technology cooperation,
international finance, environmental policy reform, U.S. bilateral and multilateral
development assistance and women's leadership.
She served on the Executive Committee of the Aspen Institute Board of Trustees,
and was chairman of its Audit Committee. For several years, Henrietta has moderated
values-based Leadership Seminars and mentored Henry Crown Fellows at the Aspen Institute.
In addition, she served as a Trustee or Director of the Asia Society, New York,
N.Y.; The Asia Foundation, San Francisco, Calif.; the National Public Radio
Foundation, Washington, D.C.; the Institute of the Americas, La Jolla, Calif.; U.S.
Committee - Pacific Economic Cooperation Council, Washington, D.C.; and National
Foundation for Women Business Owners, Washington, D.C.
In 1997, Director Fore received the Women Redefining Leadership award at the State
of the World Forum in San Francisco, Calif. She is a member of the Chief Executives
Organization, World Presidents' Organization, The Committee of 200, Wellesley Business
Leadership Council, International Women's Forum, and the National Association of
Corporate Directors.
Henrietta has a Bachelor of Arts degree in History from Wellesley College and a
Master of Science degree in Public Administration from the University of Northern
Colorado. She has also studied International Politics at Oxford University and
studied at Stanford University Graduate School of Business. She is married, lives
in Washington, D.C., and Nevada. She is a keen sailor and collector of antique
Holsman Automobiles.
