As part of the comprehensive watershed planning requested by the Tribe, the first phase of the project will involve an initial appraisal of the water, sediment, and benthic quality in Trading Cove and Shantok Brook. This effort will be conducted under the Corps Section 22 authority, Planning Assistance to States program. The investigation will also determine the initial suitability of dredged material from the Cove for constructing a wetland between the Corps? training dike in the Thames River and the riverbank. Further analysis of this opportunity would be conducted under the Section 1135 authority, Project Modifications for Improvement of the Environment.
