Summary Description: Determination of present status of fish populations in the lower Flathead River and evaluation of the impacts of the operations of Hungry Horse and Kerr Dams on these populations.

Background: The Kerr and Hungry Horse dams appeared to have had an impact on fish population in the Flathead River Basin and baseline information was necessary.

Milestones: Researchers determined the status of fish populations in the Lower Flathead River and evaluated the effects that the operations of Hungry Horse and Kerr Dams had on these fish populations. Studies were made of trout, northern pike, and largemouth bass populations, and of the interrelationships among these species. Tributaries, particularly those on or near the Flathead Indian Reservation were evaluated. This study was completed in 1988.

Results: Status of resident fish populations in the Lower Flathead River and tributaries was determined.
