Summary Description: Evaluate the impacts of drawdowns at Hungry Horse Reservoir on important game fish in the various parts of their life cycle. Utilize and develop reservoir and river models.
Background: Drawdowns at Hungry Horse appeared to impact resident fish in the reservoir.
Milestones: Investigators from the Montana Department of Fish, Wildlife, and Parks studied the effects of drawdowns (water releases for power generation, flood control, or other water management activities) on important game fish in the Hungry Horse reservoir. Biologists evaluated changes in the distribution of fish, their use of various reservoir zones, and timing of alterations of each zone's physical parameters as they related to important life stages of the fish. The study was completed in FY 1993. Additional work continued through 1999. A total of 15 mods were made and approximately $1,262,000 spent by the time the contract was closed in 2000
Results: Better water management for resident fish in the reservoir.
