Summary Description: Construct a resident trout hatchery on the Colville Indian Reservation to produce fish to stock lakes and streams on the reservation.

Background: A resident trout hatchery was proposed on the Colville Indian Reservation to produce trout to stock lakes and streams on the reservation. These fish will partially mitigate for anadromous fish losses from hydroelectric development and operation

Milestones: By 2000 thiis project had been in existence for 14 years, beginning with feasibility studies, NEPA compliance documentation and design work all occurring between 1984 and 1988. Construction of the hatchery occurred between 1988 and 1990. The Colville Confederated Tribes received the construction contract for the resident fish hatchery in July 1988. Construction was completed October 1, 1989. Contract 1985BI24946 was completed and closed, The second phase was an Operations and Maintenance Agreement between BPA and the Colville Confederated Tribes. The O&M; Agreement is a 25 year legal obligation with a 25 year renewal option to provide appropriate funding to satisfy program goals and objectives and for the program to operate within industry standards and accepted methods .

Results: Colville Tribal Resident Fish Hatchery. Ability to produce 50,000 lbs. of resident fish (brook, rainbow, and lahontan cutthroat trout] to be released into reservation waters; to provide a fishery for Colville Tribal members as well as a successful non-member sport fishery.
