Summary Description: Assess status of kokanee stocks in Lake Roosevelt and measure the success of projects in hatcheries through monitoring and evaluation. Determine losses of kokanee and rainbow caused by entrainment at Grand Coulee Dam.

Background: This project was initiated in July, l988 to monitor the success and measure the effectiveness of hatcheries and stream improvements projects to the resident fishery in Lake Roosevelt.

Milestones: Collection and analysis of data from population studies, tagging fish, Determine the effectiveness of hatchery releases into the wild system,. This project is focusing on identifying the numbers of fish lost through entrainment (going through dams). Also, the collection of zooplankton and benthic organisms assists in identifying fish food habits and needs.Stock status of principal species are being determined to aid managers of resource. Baseline data for productivity, chemical/physical parameters, etc., has been gathered and now will be monitored to determine effectiveness of FDR kokanee salmon plants and stream improvement projects. Contract 1988BI91819 was merged with contract 32148 (project 199404300) into one. As of 1995 there was one contract 13248 and one project 199404300).
