Location: HOOD SUBBASIN basin, including sites listed below.
HOOD RIVER, PARKDALE FISH FACILITY, PORTLAND, POWERDALE DAM, POWERDALE DAM, POWERDALE FISH TRAPPING FACILITY.
Summary Description: Design and build fish trap facilities at Powerdale Dam to allow data collection activities in the Hood River Basin. Improve water supply at Oak Springs Hatchery. Continue with O&M.;
Background: Information gaps exist about Hood River fish runs. Collecting this data will fill in major information gaps, and allow fishery management and clear hatchery goals to be established. The goal of this project was to build adult trapping, sorting/handling, and enumerating facilities at Powerdale Dam fish ladder to allow data collection to proceed. Information gaps exist about Hood River fish runs. Collecting this data will fill in major information gaps, and allow fishery management and clear hatchery goals to be established. This project is related to FY97 proposal # 5519300 (Parkdale - Adult Holding, Oak Springs Hatchery - Rearing, Pelton Dam - Ladder Modifications) Objectives include providing for needed facilities for the augmentation of summer and winter steelhead trout numbers in the Hood River Basin in accordance with the Hood River Production Master Plan of July 1991 for 150,000 summer steelhead and 85,000 winter steelhead smolts.
Milestones: Facility design at Powerdal Dam began in 1993. Temporary facilities completed fall l994. Access road was built by summer 1995. Powerdale facilities were begun the summer of 1995. Complete construction was planned by summer 1996.Other sites planning and design will be funded under separate project numbers. As part of the Hood River Basin Recovery Plan, Oak Springs Hatchery will incubate and rear steelhead for release into the Hood River System. This is in accordance with the Hood River Production Master Plan of July 1991. Contract 1993BI99921 was completed and closed by 1997. TBL contract 1997TX30113 task order 1998FW10036 for $1800 for estate work was issued in 1998.
Results: Run inventory information will be used to refine future artificial production programs. Implementation efforts should result in recovery of steelhead populations in the Hood River Basin
