System Requirements And Installation Information

1.   GENERAL INFORMATION:

DLIS CD-ROM products can be installed in either DOS or Windows.  The DOS application is installed at the DOS prompt.  The Windows set-up is completed either through the Windows File Manager or through Start then Run options. These installation instructions list the hard drive as C and CD-ROM drive as L as an example only. If your system differs, substitute your letters for C and L below.  Follow all installation instructions to create the product group and icons.

2.   SYSTEM REQUIREMENTS - DOS VERSION:

The following minimum configuration is required to use these CD-ROM discs:
- An IBM PC/XT/AT or compatible with 640Kb RAM.
- Minimum of 5MB of free hard disk space.
- MS-DOS version 3.1 or later.
- CD-ROM drives with MS-DOS extension version 2.0 or greater.
- Config.sys file with FILES = 30 and BUFFERS = 20.

3.      STANDALONE PC INSTALLATION PROCEDURES - DOS VERSION INSTALLATION IS REQUIRED WITH EACH UPDATE:

- Insert the CD-ROM disc into the CD-ROM drive.
- At C:\> prompt type L: then ENTER (L=your CD-ROM drive).
- Type INSTALL, then ENTER.
- Follow all directions that appear on your monitor.

4.   NETWORK INSTALLATION PROCEDURES - DOS VERSION:

NETWORK ADMINISTRATOR:
- Insert the CD-ROM disc into the CD-ROM network drive.

END-USER:
- At the DOS prompt, change the prompt to the network drive that contains the CD-ROM.
- Type INSTALL, then ENTER.
- Select Network Server Installation option and follow all directions that appear on monitor.
- At the DOS prompt, change the prompt to the network drive that contains the CD-ROM.
- Type INSTALL, then ENTER.
- Select Network Workstation Installation option and follow all directions that appear on monitor.

5.   SYSTEM REQUIREMENTS - WINDOWS 16-BIT VERSION:

The following minimum configuration is required to use this CD-ROM disc:
- An IBM PC/XT/AT 386 or compatible with 4MB RAM (recommend
8MB or better).
- Minimum of 5MB of free hard disk space.
- Microsoft Windows version 3.1 or later.
- CD-ROM drives with MS CD extension version 2.1 or greater.
- Config.sys file with FILES = 30 and BUFFERS = 20

6.      STANDALONE PC INSTALLATION PROCEDURES - WINDOWS 16-BIT VERSION INSTALLATION IS REQUIRED WITH EACH UPDATE:

- Insert the CD-ROM disc into the CD-ROM drive.
- At the Windows PROGRAM MANAGER, select FILE then RUN, or for
Win95 select START then RUN, then at COMMAND LINE: type L:\SETUP16 then click OK.  (L=your CD-ROM drive).
- Follow all directions that appear on monitor.

7.   NETWORK INSTALLATION PROCEDURES - WINDOWS 16-BIT VERSION:

NETWORK ADMINISTRATOR:
- Insert the CD-ROM disc into the CD-ROM network drive.

END-USER:
- At the Windows PROGRAM MANAGER, select FILE then RUN, or for Win95/NT select START then RUN, then at COMMAND LINE: type L:\SETUP16 then click OK.  (L=network CD-ROM drive).
- Select Network Server Installation option and follow all directions that appear on monitor.
- Return to the Windows PROGRAM MANAGER, select FILE then RUN, or for Win95/NT select START then RUN, then at COMMAND LINE:  type L:\SETUP16 then click OK.  (L=your CD-ROM drive).
- Select Network Workstation Installation option and follow all directions that appear on monitor.

8.   SYSTEM REQUIREMENTS - WINDOWS 32-BIT VERSION

The following minimum configuration is required to use this CD-ROM disc:
- An IBM PC/XT/AT 486 or compatible with 16MB RAM (recommend 32MB or better).
- Minimum of 5MB of free hard disk space.
- Microsoft Windows version 95/98/NT 4.0 (SP4 or later)/2000.
- CD-ROM drives with Windows 95 drivers or greater.
- Internet Explorer 4.01 or greater.
- Users running Windows NT may experience installation problems.  Windows NT allows each site to establish their own local security configuration.  During installation of this product, the registry is updated for some modules; however, errors are encountered when the end-user installing this product does not have authority to write to the registry database.  The immediate solutions are to (1) have system administrators install this product each month, or (2) obtain administrative authority to write to the Windows registry database.

9.       SINGLE NON-NETWORK PC INSTALLATION PROCEDURES - WINDOWS 32-BIT VERSION INSTALLATION IS NO LONGER REQUIRED WITH EACH UPDATE:

- AUTO-START feature is enabled; if your hardware does not support this feature, follow the instructions below:
- Insert the CD-ROM disc into the CD-ROM drive.
- At the Windows PROGRAM MANAGER, select FILE then RUN, or for Win95\NT select START then RUN, then at COMMAND LINE: type L:\SETUP then click OK.  (L=your CD-ROM drive).
- Select End User PC Installation and follow all directions that appear on monitor.

10.   NETWORK INSTALLATION PROCEDURES - WINDOWS 32-BIT VERSION:

NETWORK ADMINISTRATOR:
- Insert the CD-ROM disc into the CD-ROM network drive.
- At the Windows PROGRAM MANAGER, select FILE then RUN, or for Win95\NT select START then RUN, then at COMMAND LINE: type L:\SETUP then click OK.  (L=your CD-ROM drive).

- Select Network Server Installation option and follow all directions that appear on monitor. 

END-USER:
- At the Windows PROGRAM MANAGER, select FILE then RUN, or for Win95/NT select START then RUN, then at COMMAND LINE: type L:\SETUP then click OK.  (L=network CD-ROM drive).
- Select End User Installation option and follow all directions that appear on monitor. 

11.  FOR 32-BIT YOU WILL BE PROMPTED WHEN YOU NEED TO  REINSTALL/UPDATE THIS CD-ROM: 

- Insert the CD-ROM disc into the CD-ROM drive.
- At the Setup Window, click on the Repair button and follow all directions that appear on the monitor. 

NOTE:  The system will automatically use the same drive locations as you chose with the initial install.  If you wish to change these locations, you must follow the directions for removing the installed programs and then go through the initial setup instructions again.

12. TO DELETE THE CD-ROM APPLICATION FROM YOUR SYSTEM:

The correct way to delete application from your system is to:
- Insert the CD-ROM disc into the CD-ROM drive.
- At the Setup Window, click on the Remove button and follow all directions that appear on the monitor. 

13.  SPECIAL SYSTEM REQUIREMENTS AND INSTALLATION REQUIREMENTS:

PACS MCRL CD ROM PRODUCTS   

- Same System Requirements for both DOS and Windows except requires 2 CD-ROM drives with MS CD extension version 2.0 or greater.
- Same Installation Procedures for both DOS and Windows except insert both PACS MCRL disc #1 and disc #2 into CD-ROM drives; and L=your CD-ROM drive containing disc #1.

CHARACTERISTICS DATA CD ROM PRODUCT

- This product is a 3 disc set with each CD-ROM running independently from the others. It requires installation of disc #1 only, with System Requirements and Installation Procedures the same as all products.
- The NIIN ranges for each disc is printed on disc artwork..  You must search each individual CD if looking for all NIINs containing specific search criteria.  Otherwise, the results will be only the NIINs that match the criteria on that specific CD.
- To search another disc in Windows, user must hit folder icon, choose another disc and insert needed disc in the same CD-ROM drive that disc #1 was installed in.  In DOS, user must hit F10, choose another disc and insert needed disc in the same CD-ROM drive that disc #1 was installed.

 14.   RECYCLING CD-ROM DISCs: 

The facility listed below has been identified to recycle used CDs.  The following requirements must be met; misuse could result in loss of this service:

Send whole discs only, do not cut.  Scratch each disc with a sharp object on the front and back. Ship discs without any packaging. Do not send paper/plastic sleeves, paper inserts, mailing envelopes, etc.  Ship discs in packages of less than 50 lbs.  Cost of shipping is your responsibility.
