LONDON (NNS) -- The open season for the Combined Federal Campaign-Overseas (CFC-O) has arrived. From Oct. 4 through Dec. 3, Sailors and Department of Defense (DoD) employees have the opportunity to make a charitable contribution from a selection of more than 1,500 charities.

Malabar 04 Exercises Conclude Successfully Off Indian Coast
GOA, India (NNS) -- About 2,000 U.S. and Indian navy personnel took part in Malabar 04, a training exercise off the southwest coast of India Oct. 1-9.

Malabar was designed to increase interoperability between the two navies, while enhancing the cooperative security relationship between India and the United States. ABOARD USS ESSEX , Northern Arabian Gulf (NNS) -- Adm. Vern Clark, Chief of Naval Operations (CNO), visited USS Essex (LHD 2) Oct. 11, the flagship for Expeditionary Strike Group (ESG) 3 on station in the Northern Arabian Gulf (NAG).

During the visit, Marine Brig. Gen. Joseph V. Medina, commander, ESG 3/commander, Task Group 58 (CTF 58), and his staff briefed the CNO on current operations and accomplishments of ESG 3 throughout their deployment to the NAG.

Child Care Rates Increase 1.5 Percent for Navy Region Europe
NAPLES, Italy (NNS) -- Childcare fees in the European theater will increase by an average of $1.33 per week beginning Nov. 1.

The increase of 1.5 percent reflects the regional state of inflation and continues to keep Navy Region Europe at the lower end of the band of childcare prices Navywide. This and a few other policy changes affect all families who use the Child Development Center, School Age Care and Child Development Homes programs for full or part-time care.

NORFOLK, Va. (NNS) -- Nearly 7,600 Sailors left their homeports as the USS Harry S. Truman Carrier Strike Group (HSTCSG) deployed Oct. 13 in support of the global war on terrorism.

The strike group wrapped up Summer Pulse ‘04, a groundbreaking exercise involving seven carrier strike groups, in late July. Navy Recruiting Successful in Manning the Fleet
MILLINGTON, Tenn. (NNS) -- Navy Recruiting Command (CNRC) closed out another successful year of recruiting active-duty and Reserve Sailors Sept. 30, marking the 38th month of meeting active-duty enlisted accession and new contract objective goals.

CNRC met enlisted accession requirements for the fiscal year, accessing 39,677 active-duty recruits, with an annual target of between 39,600 and 39,725. Additionally, the command brought in 11,245 enlisted Reserve recruits in fiscal year 20

PEARL HARBOR, Hawaii (NNS) -- USS Cheyenne (SSN 773) departed for a Western Pacific deployment from its homeport of Pearl Harbor Oct. 8.
