Overview of the Office of International Programs

To protect the health of American consumers, FDA cannot limit its activities to the United States. More than 80 percent of all seafood, 20 percent of all fresh produce, and millions of other FDA-regulated products consumed or used in the United States are produced abroad. Products regulated by the agency that are made in other countries must meet the same standards as those manufactured domestically. Thus, FDA's international activities encompass:
