To apply for one of the positions listed, applicants generally must meet certain education or experience requirements, and students and entry level applicants must have a B or better grade-point average. These applications are kept on file for a six-month period, and are referred to selecting officials during that period if they are considered to be highly qualified for vacancies which occur.
Advertised Openings. Most vacancies are advertised on the Office of Personnel Management's Federal Job Opportunity Board at www.usajobs.opm.gov, on the Agency's web site at www.flra.gov/29-jobs.html, and in Federal career opportunities pamphlets available in your local library. Additionally, applicants can call the FLRA's Employment Job Line at (202) 482-6537 (or toll free at 1-877-303-8945) and leave a message asking for a return call regarding current vacancies. When applying for an advertised opening, the Agency's vacancy announcement lists the information applicants should include in a resume, and will include any selective factors or quality ranking factors (i.e., knowledge, skills, and abilities) which must be specifically addressed on a separate attachment. Although the Agency fills a variety of vacancies, the majority of FLRA vacancies are for Attorneys or Labor Relations Specialists at grades GS-7 through GS-13 or GS-14.

Student Appointments. Degree-seeking students are hired for temporary or permanent positions in professional, administrative and technical positions throughout the agency. To be eligible for these appointments, students must be enrolled or have been accepted for enrollment on at least a part-time schedule at an accredited institution. Generally, students seeking a 2-year non-baccalaureate degree are eligible for employment at the GS-3 level when they have completed one year of academic study. Four-year baccalaureate degree-seeking students must have completed two years of academic study and are hired at the GS-4 level. Graduate degree students must have a bachelor's degree and may be hired at the GS-5 or GS-7 level, depending on qualifications.
People with Disabilities. People with disabilities are considered for employment through the advertised opening or Applicant Supply File competitive hiring process or the Selective Placement Program. The Selective Placement Program is a special employment program designed to assist qualified individuals with disabilities to obtain employment consistent with their level of skills and abilities. Use of this authority provides applicants a unique opportunity to demonstrate the potential to successfully perform the essential duties of a position, with or without workplace reasonable accommodation.
