Family Leave and Sick Leave
The federal Family and Medical Leave Act provides time off for qualifying workers with newborns or family medical situations. Employees are eligible if they have worked for a covered employer for at least one year, for 1,250 hours over the previous 12 months, and if there are at least 50 employees within 75 miles. Employees may use personal sick leave to care for children under 18 who have health conditions requiring supervision or treatment.
