Marines Prepare Iraqi Police Recruits, Visit Clinic Site

BAGHDAD, Iraq, July 15, 2004 — Marines screened and escorted more than 50 Iraqi police recruits from Mahmudiyah region to the Baghdad Academy July 13, according to Multinational Force Iraq officials.

The academy class will begin July 16. Upon arrival recruits were given identification cards and placed on leave in the interim. The district chief of police and several other Iraqi police were on hand when the recruits were received.

Civil affairs teams visited the site of a proposed primary health clinic July 13. The teams assessed the site a good location, with access from a paved road. It is adjacent to a secondary school and centrally located between two large population centers.

The location is also near a water source, and the Iraqi government has planned to provide the nearby school with access to water, which might also be able to service the clinic as well.
