Saddam's Palaces Handed Over to a University
Fact of the Day
Some of the lavish palaces once used by Saddam Hussein to reinforce his
all-powerful image have been handed over to educators. In September,
three of Saddam's former palaces will become part of a university in
Northern Iraq, housing an electronic agricultural library available to
students across the country, administrative offices for the College of
Agriculture and Forestry, and a faculty club with conference
facilities. The project illustrates another way that Iraqis are
transforming vestiges of Saddam's regime for the benefit of the new
Iraq.
