The Defense Information System Network (DISN) provides interoperable,
secure Internet Protocol (IP) and Asynchronous Transfer Mode (ATM)
data communications services.
NIPRNet: the Non-secure Internet
Protocol Router Network (NIPRNet) provides seamless interoperability
for unclassifed combat support applications, as well as controlled
access to the Internet. Direct connection data rates range from
56Kbps to 155Mbps. Remote dial-up services are available up to
56Kbps.
SIPRNet: The Secret IP Router
Network (SIPRNet) is DoD’s largest interoperable command
and control data network, supporting the Global Command and Control
System (GCCS), the Defense Message System (DMS), collaborative
planning and numerous other classified warfighter applications.
Direct connection data rates range from 56 kbps to 155 Mbps for
the NIPRNet, and up to 45 Mbps for the SIPRNet. Remote dial-up
services are also available, ranging from 19.2 kbps on SIPRNet
to 56 kbps on NIPRNet.
