Mid-day Aurora Australis over the Elevated Station at Amundsen-Scott South Pole Station. This photo was taken at 11:40 AM. Auroras are an atmospheric phenomenon consisting of bands of light caused by charged solar particles following the earth's magnetic lines of force. |
