USTDA Leads Inter-Agency International Aviation Committee
USTDA is serving as the lead agency on a
new inter-agency
committee on international
aviation safety and
security (CIASS).
The committee is
dedicated to the coordination
of technical assistance
in the areas of
aviation safety and
security in developing
countries.
“By working together, our agencies can
develop an international
technical assistance
strategy that is greater
than the sum of its
constituent parts,” said
USTDA Director
Askey at the CIASS
inaugural meeting.
“The commercial and
foreign policy importance
of this sector to our
country demands
nothing less.”
CIASS will strengthen the impact of
U.S. aviation and
security assistance through
a strategic,
government-wide focus on priority
projects. The Committee
Secretariat, composed
of USTDA and the Federal
Aviation
Administration (FAA),
will maintain a database
of U.S.
Government-sponsored technical
assistance activities and
will disseminate
information to CIASS
member departments
and agencies.
In addition to USTDA and FAA, six
other U.S. Government
agencies serve on
the committee. They are
the Departments
of Transportation, State,
Commerce, and
Defense; the
Transportation Security Administration,
the U.S. Agency for
International
Development; and the
Export-Import Bank
of the United States.
Committee members are meeting regularly
to establish priorities
and strategies for
the delivery of technical
assistance. Through
this coordination, CIASS
is strengthening the
overall effectiveness of
U.S. Government sponsored
technical assistance in
developing
countries.
