For Immediate Release

MOSCOW - On June 7, TDA awarded a $325,000 grant to Vnukovo Invest for a feasibility study on the modernization and expansion of Vnukovo Airport in Moscow, Russia.

The grant was signed by U.S. Ambassador to Russia Alexander Vershbow and Vitaly Vancev, the airport's deputy director. The focus of the project is to expand the passenger handling facilities to allow as many as 5 million international and 7 million domestic passengers annually to pass through the airport and to increase the cargo handling capacity to 200,000 tons per year. It is anticipated that the upgrade will meet the airport's needs through the year 2020. Squire, Sanders and Dempsey, of Cleveland, Ohio, is the U.S. firm that was chosen to be the prime contractor.

In his comments at the signing ceremony, Ambassador Vershbow indicated that the grant is evidence of the U.S. Government's ongoing strong support for economic and commercial development in Russia, and that the improvement of the Vnukovo facility will increase the flow of visitors to Moscow.
