U.S. Trade and Development Agency Offers Grant Assistance
to Mongolia for Civil Aviation Safety Training

Washington, DC - (November 16, 2001) U.S. Trade and Development Agency (TDA) Director Thelma J. Askey today offered a US$150,000 training grant to promote civil aviation safety in Mongolia. The offer was presented during a bilateral meeting with Mongolian Prime Minister Nambar Enkhbayar at the Embassy of Mongolia in Washington, DC.
The training program would take place in Ulaanbaatar, Mongolia, and cover aviation safety regulation training for managers, safety inspectors, pilots, mechanics and dispatchers from Mongolia's Civil Aviation Authority and the MIAT Mongolian Airlines. This initiative was developed in coordination with the Federal Aviation Administration and is designed to help Mongolia comply with standards defined by the International Civil Aviation Organization (ICAO).
The U.S. Trade and Development Agency promotes American private-sector participation by helping U.S. companies pursue business opportunities in developing and middle-income countries. Through the funding of feasibility studies, orientation visits, specialized training grants, business workshops, and various forms of technical assistance, TDA helps foreign project sponsors develop priority infrastructure projects with American technological and financial expertise. In addition, the agency promotes capacity building initiatives and supports U.S. government trade, economic policy and development objectives around the world.
