TDA AWARDS GRANT TO UKRTRANSNAFTA FOR TECHNICAL ASSISTANCE ON THE ODESSA-BRODY OIL PIPELINE

For Immediate Release

Washington, D.C. - Today the U.S. Trade and Development Agency (TDA) awarded a $125,000 grant to the Joint Stock Company "UKRTRANSNAFTA", the Ukrainian oil transportation company, for a study related to the commercialization of the Odessa-Brody oil pipeline.

The grant agreement was signed by TDA Director Thelma J. Askey and Ukrainian Ambassador to the United States Konstyantyn Gryshchenko in the presence of Ukrainian Prime Minister Anatoliy Kinakh. The study, which will be carried out by the Halliburton Company, will build on an earlier TDA grant to the Government of Ukraine for a feasibility study on the Odessa-Brody oil pipeline. Today's grant will allow for the market and tariff analyses carried out under the earlier grant to be updated, enabling Ukrtransnafta to effectively market the Odessa-Brody pipeline to regional oil shippers, specifically Caspian Pipeline Consortium oil from the Tengiz oilfield in Kazakhstan.

"We are pleased to support this important project in Ukraine," said TDA Director Askey at the signing ceremony, "Previous TDA support for other high priority pipeline projects in the region, such as the Baku-Tbilisi-Ceyhan oil pipeline, have proven successful in moving those projects forward. We anticipate that our continued support for the Odessa-Brody oil pipeline in Ukraine will be instrumental in its effective commercialization."

The U.S. Trade and Development Agency promotes American private sector participation by helping U.S. companies pursue business opportunities in developing and middle income countries. Through the funding of feasibility studies, orientation visits, specialized training grants, business workshops, and various forms of technical assistance, TDA helps American businesses compete for infrastructure projects in emerging markets. This grant brings TDA's support for Ukraine since it began operating there in 1993 to over $9.5 million for feasibility studies and technical assistance on 28 major projects.
