USTDA AWARDS GRANT FOR PULTRUDED FIBERGLASS PRODUCTS IN RUSSIA

MOSCOW, RUSSIA - (September 12, 2003) The U.S. Trade and Development Agency (USTDA) awarded a $110,000 grant on September 8, 2003 for a feasibility study on producing pultruded fiberglass products at the Scientific Production Amalgamation Karboterm facility in Khotkovo, Russia. Mr. John Beyrle, Deputy Chief of Mission at the U.S. Embassy in Moscow, signed an agreement conferring the grant on behalf of the U.S. Government. Mr. Vyacheslav Barynin, Deputy General Director of Karboterm, signed on behalf of the Grantee.

The USTDA grant will be used to fund a study on the feasibility of Karboterm's production of pultruded fiberglass components, such as window and construction shapes, panels, tubes, and window and door lineals. Currently, these products are not produced in Russia. Karboterm's goal is to supply quality fiberglass products to meet the increasing demands of the Russian housing industry. Hatch Associates Consultants, of Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, is the U.S. contractor working on the study.

The U.S. Trade and Development Agency advances economic development and U.S. commercial interests in developing and middle-income countries. The agency funds various forms of technical assistance, feasibility studies, training, orientation visits and business workshops that support the development of a modern infrastructure and a fair and open trading environment. USTDA's strategic use of foreign assistance funds to support sound investment policy and decision-making in host countries creates an enabling environment for trade, investment and sustainable economic development. In carrying out its mission, USTDA gives emphasis to economic sectors that may benefit from U.S. exports of goods and services.
