TDA To Host Business Briefing, Trade Visit To Promote U.S. Exports to
Argentine Airport Projects
For Immediate Release
Washington, D.C. The U.S. Trade and Development Agency is sponsoring a visit by four high-
ranking Argentine officials to three U.S. cities from May 5-8, 1997 to promote American aviation
equipment and services for $1 billion in airport projects planned in Argentina during the next decade.
The "reverse trade mission" will include a business briefing for U.S. companies on Tuesday, May 6
beginning at 8:30 a.m. at the Embassy of Argentina, 1600 New Hampshire Ave. N.W., Washington,
D.C.
"The planned privatization of airports in Argentina represent an enormous opportunity for
American exporters," said TDA Director J. Joseph Grandmaison in announcing the visit. "We
estimated that exports could exceed $50 million during the next five years and increase at least five-fold in the following decade. But international competition is keen. This orientation visit is designed
to introduce the Argentine officials to state-of-the-art American technology and services so U.S. firms
are competitive for future contracts."
Grandmaison said that airport automation systems, cargo handling, airport security, airport
lighting, and telecommunications are the prime areas for U.S. exports.
The TDA-sponsored business briefing will include a detailed presentation by the Argentine
delegation on the governmentís plans to privatize 18 airports in the national airport system,
highlighting export opportunities. Attendees also will be able to meet one-on-one with project
sponsors in the afternoon through meetings scheduled by TDA.
In addition to meeting with FAA officials, the Argentine delegation will also visit Atlanta and
Miami to meet with U.S. companies and tour airports in those cities. The U.S. Dept. of Commerce and
the FAA are cosponsoring the visit.
