Sponsors of Top 21 Information Management System Projects In Asia To Visit Boston, Seattle

Washington, D. C. - Key decision-makers on 21 major information management system projects in seven
Asian nations with millions of dollars of export potential will visit Boston, Mass. and Seattle, Wash. to
meet with U.S. hardware, software, networking, and other telecommunications technology equipment
makers and service providers during a trade mission sponsored by the U.S. Trade and Development
Agency (TDA).
Project sponsors from Brunei, Indonesia, Malaysia, Philippines, Singapore, Thailand, and
Vietnam will present details of their projects and then be available for -one-on-one+ private meetings
arranged by TDA at the World Trade Center in Boston on June 9 - 10, 1997 and then at the Madison Hotel,
Seattle on June 12 - 13, 1997.
"This is an unprecedented opportunity for American companies to get the inside track on millions
of dollars worth of information management system projects in the fastest growing market in the world,"
said TDA Director J. Joseph Grandmaison in announcing the visit. "For less than a one-way ticket to Asia,
suppliers, manufacturers, consultants, and other professionals in the field can meet personally with the
project sponsors to showcase their products and services."
Among the MIS projects:
- Thai Customs Department Electronic Data Interchange Project - Nationwide EDI project with $10
million export potential to accelerate document movement between airports, seaports, banks, and the Royal
Thai government.
- Malaysia Ministry of Health Telemedicine Project - Linking of three Malaysian hospitals through
telemedicine to serve as a national model.
- Brunei Government MIS Update - Upgrade of personal computer and software systems for
Ministries.
- Philippines Land Transportation Office Information Technology Project - Installation of a system
integration information technology solution infrastructure that links the agency to 200 regional offices and
serves as database for drivers license modernization, vehicle license plates, motor vehicle titling,
inspection, and air emission testing.
- "Smart City" Project in Malaysia - Malaysian officials will examine a wide range of American-
made technology for use in the construction of Putrajaya, the nation+s new capital city and federal
administrative center. This $8 billion project, scheduled for completion in 2005, will be the world+s first -
intelligent city+ developed from the ground up.
- Thai State Railway Projects - Development of a computerized reservation and ticketing system for
Thai railroad stations as well as a Human Resource Department Management system using state-of-the-art
hardware and software.
- Indonesian Electric Utility MIS Project - Development of a system to manage PLN+s business
operations, a $30 million opportunity.
The Boston program is being held in conjunction with a nationwide tour by seven U.S.
ambassadors cosponsored by the U.S. - ASEAN Business Council, the U.S. Foreign and Commercial
Service, and the U.S. Department of State. The Seattle event is cosponsored by the Trade Development
Alliance of Greater Seattle.
Both events feature match-maker meetings facilitated by TDA. Attendees indicate which project
sponsors they wish to meet with, and TDA arranges private meetings between U.S. companies and Asian
project sponsors.
Attendees also will receive a comprehensive briefing book on the Asian market for IS technology
that provides insights on each of the 21 profiled projects.
