TDA to Host $2 Billion Deal-Making Event for U.S. Water Sector Businesses

For Immediate Release

Washington, DC (7 October 1999) The U.S. Trade and Development Agency (TDA) today announced plans to host a delegation of prominent African and Middle Eastern water sector officials to the United States from October 19-21 to meet with U.S. manufacturers and suppliers of water and wastewater equipment and technology. The three-day business conference will feature nearly 30 water-related projects from 12 countries in the region worth more than $2 billion in U.S. exports.

"U.S. expertise and technology can go a long way toward solving the water needs facing Africa and the Middle East. With expanding populations and an ever-increasing strain placed on the region's limited water supply, U.S. businesses are positioned to help meet this growing demand in the new millenium, "said TDA Director J. Joseph Grandmaison. "I am pleased we can present this opportunity for supply and demand to get together in California."

The projects to be presented represent all phases of water infrastructure needs, including water, wastewater and desalination. The foreign project sponsors will provide overviews of their upcoming needs to the U.S. audience, and then be available for one-on-one meetings. At this matchmaking event, American companies will have the opportunity to sell their products and services, as well as network with industry peers. U.S. architecture, engineering and construction firms, water and wastewater equipment manufacturers and suppliers, project developers, and financiers should plan to attend. Registration information is available on-line at www.tda.eaest.com , or by calling (410) 527-2425.

The U.S. Trade and Development Agency is an independent federal agency that assists in the creation of jobs for Americans by helping U.S. companies pursue overseas business opportunities. TDA provides American firms with market entry, exposure and information through the funding of feasibility studies, technical assistance, reverse trade missions, and conferences. These efforts help American businesses establish a position in newly emerging economies.
