Uzbekistan Health Officials To Visit U.S.

Washington, D.C. ó Health officials from Uzbekistan will discuss U.S. export opportunities in the development of rural health care in their nation
during a week-long visit to five U.S. cities: Cedar Rapids, Ia.; Billings, Mont.; New York City; and Princeton, N.J. The last stop will include a U.S.
Trade and Development Agency (TDA) sponsored business briefing on Friday, June 27, 1997 at The Nassau Inn in Princeton from 10:30 am to 5:00
pm.
"The development of the rural health care industry in Uzbekistan presents an opportunity to dramatically increase exports of medical goods and
services," says TDA Director Joe Grandmaison. "Now is the time to develop business in this expanding market."
Uzbekistan is the recepient of a $50 million World Bank loan for the development of its rural health care industry. The Uzbek health officials are
looking for U.S. products and services such as a x-ray, urological and ultrasound equipment, computer tomographers, and hearing aids.
The World Bank loan will help create export potential for U.S. medical equipment and service providers. Key opportunities include: surgical equipment
and supplies; laboratory and diagnostic equipment; rural medical clinic (RMC) design and construction; OB/GYN and neo- natal care unit
development; primary care physicians and health care worker training; data information systems for RMC's and telemedicine applications;
pharmaceuticals delivery and local production capabilities, and health worker productivity and motivation plans development.
The main speakers of the TDA-sponsored seminar include: Dr. Fazil N. Khasanov, Chief Psychiatrist, Ministry of Health; Jamshid T. Alimov, Ph.D,
General Director - Tashmahsulot; Ms. Della Barnokhayeva, Health Specialist; and Mr. John Langenbrunner, World Bank Task Manager of
Uzbekistan. Eight additional Uzbek health delegates will also speak at the seminar. U.S. companies, through pre-scheduled private meetings facilitated
by TDA, will be able to present products and services and make valuable contacts with Uzbekistan health officials.
