Completed Feasibility Studies:
The Research Has Been Done For You
If you have not visited the TDA Library
either in-person or on-line, you are missing out on billions
of dollars in export opportunities. As a supplier of equipment
and services, you should know that someone has already done the
research for you on many major projects around the world and
contact information for these opportunities is only a phone call
or mouse click away. Completed feasibility studies offer U.S.
companies the inside track into projects that are currently being
implemented or will be implemented in the coming months. Copies
of these business reports may be read in the TDA Library or purchased
through NTIS by calling (703) 605-6000. NTIS reports are also
sold on the Internet at www.fedworld.gov/ntis/ordering.htm. A
searchable list of TDA activities can be found at our on-line
library.
Following are highlights from recently released reports:
AFRICA
Egypt Environmental Assessment MIDOR Refinery
Due to sweeping changes in Egyptian
environmental legislation, the country's new industrial facilities
must meet tough air, water and waste protection standards. Because
U.S. businesses are highly competitive in environmental technologies,
TDA funded a feasibility study to assist a privately-owned Egyptian
company, Middle East Oil Refinery (MIDOR), with an environmental
impact study on its newest facility. Possible U.S. exports for
this project include various air pollution and oil spill control
equipment such as electrostatic precipitators, scrubbers, portable
emission control systems, and vapor control and smokeless flare
systems.

Brazil Copelmi Seival Coal Mine
Given Brazil's critical power
shortages, developing new environmentally friendly energy sources
is a top priority. To help meet this need, TDA provided partial
funding for a feasibility study on the development of a coal
mine in Rio Grande do Sul. Potential U.S. exports for this project
could reach $20 million and may include cable shovels, draglines,
bulldozers, wheel loaders, hydraulic surface drills, dump trucks,
and coal crushing and preparation equipment. A separate TDA-funded
feasibility study is ongoing with this coal mine operator and
another one on the development of a related power plant, which
will use clean coal technology.

Ecuador Port of Manta Expansion
Over the past year, Ecuador has
experienced a surge of export growth, which requires an increase
in shipping and cargo consolidation infrastructure. The increase
in exports has strained shipping and transportation as a whole.
To alleviate this problem, the country plans to expand the Port
of Manta, which is located on the Pacific Ocean. Potential U.S.
exports for this project include portal container cranes, transtainers,
chasis, tractors, forklift trucks and accessory equipment.
