TDA's Summer Conference Calendar
Transforming the Caspian Health Care System
Building on the momentum created
by two recent conferences focusing on the Caspian region, TDA
will host a Caspian Health Care Symposium in Tashkent, Uzbekistan,
from June 5-7 to highlight 15-20 major upcoming projects. Attending
U.S. businesses will hear about opportunities in new hospital
construction, existing health care facility renovations, pharmaceutical
manufacturing and distribution, medical equipment acquisitions,
primary health care training, and management systems applications.
With the discovery of massive oil and gas
reserves, the Caspian region offers substantial opportunities
for foreign direct investment and growing exports. In addition
to providing U.S. businesses with the inside track on pipeline
plans, TDA has made a special effort to focus on ancillary projects
in several key sectors including health care. Because the U.S.
health care industry offers some of the world's most competitive
technology and services, they are ideal partners to assist with
the Caspian region's plans to transform its existing system.
Obtaining financing for these
projects will obviously be critical to moving them forward. That
is why this event will feature representatives from the World
Bank, European Bank for Reconstruction and Development, Export-Import
Bank of the United States and the Overseas Private Investment
Corporation. The World Bank has already pledged funding for several
of these projects.

Health Care Symposium, please visit the event Website at www.tech-res-intl.com/tda/tashkent.

Trumping Aviation Opportunities in Southern Africa
From August 13-15, TDA will host a symposium
with the American Association of Airport Executives in Sun City,
South Africa, to promote U.S. aviation and airport projects across
Southern Africa. Through project presentations and one-on-one
meetings with key procurement decision-makers, U.S. businesses
will be provided with insight on upcoming projects in this growing market.
In addition to project presentations,
several key policy discussions will take place. Panelists will
engage in critical topics such as aviation safety, security,
infrastructure development and open skies. The symposium will
also feature an aviation trade show.
TDA has been an active participant
in the Clinton Administration's broad-based effort to support
Africa's integration into the global economy through the Safe
Skies for Africa Initiative, which was announced in April 1998.
To date, TDA has provided technical assistance for aviation projects
in Ethiopia, Ghana, Mali, Mozambique, Namibia, South Africa,
Zimbabwe and the Southern Africa Development Community. With
co-sponsorship from the U.S. Departments of Commerce and Transportation,
and the Federal Aviation Administration, this conference is a
tangible next step in assisting Southern Africa.
