In April, USTDA sponsored a U.S.-China Aviation Symposium in cooperation with the General Administration of Civil Aviation of China (CAAC).  The event provided a forum for the discussion of airport defederalization and the development of new airports in China, aviation safety, air traffic control, and the state of general aviation and corporate aviation markets.

Among the more than 250 participants were U.S. Congressmen Roger Wicker (R-MS) and James Oberstar (D-MN), who provided keynote addresses on current U.S.-China bilateral relations and bilateral cooperation in the area of aviation safety, security and financing. Participants from the CAAC interacted with U.S. policy makers, as well as U.S. aviation vendors and service providers, to discuss ways to strengthen U.S.-China cooperation in the aviation sector.

As an indication of their mutual commitment to work together for aviation development in China, USTDA Director Askey and CAAC Minister Yang Yuanyuan signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) during the symposium.  The MOU pledged USTDA support for the U.S.-China Aviation Cooperation Program (ACP), a new public-private partnership that will coordinate U.S. Government and private industry support for the training of Chinese aviation professionals.  The ACP will also promote industry-wide cooperation in helping Chinese aviation experts to develop and operate safe and efficient aviation infrastructure.
