A plenary session,"Eliminating Health Disparities," coordinated by the Office of Minority Health and moderated by Charles J. Ogletree, Jr. of Harvard Law School, was held on Thursday, January 27. The session was part of the Healthy People 2010 Launch at the Partnerships for Health in the New Millennium Conference in Washington, D.C. Panelists H. Jack Geiger, Vanessa N. Gamble, Bonnie Erbe, Robert Jensen, and Theda McPheron-Keel focused their discussion on ways to improve the health of racial and ethnic minority populations through the development of effective health policies and programs that help to eliminate health disparities and gaps. Due to snow in the Washington, D.C. area, Irene Hirano, Executive Director and President of the Japanese American National Museum, and Anita Perez Ferguson, an author and speaker, were unable to participate in this session.
