Benefits

Looking for an exciting and challenging career opportunity?  Then join over 500 others who have become members of the Defense Information Systems Agency Career Development Intern Program.  To tackle the technical challenges of providing and maintaining information systems to support our Nation’s warfighters, DISA is seeking recent college graduates to join its workforce.

DISA established the intern program in 1994 for those who desire careers in such fields as information technology, engineering, computer systems, computer science, finance, human resources, and business administration. The 3-year program develops technical, leadership and interpersonal skills through core programs, classroom training, on-the-job experiences, and diverse rotational assignments.  The program provides rapid promotions, while training in the new position.

The program is a structured approach and includes a combination of formal training and on-the-job experiences. Each intern is required to design an Individual Development Plan (IDP) that describes and outlines the training, education and career development activities throughout the internship.   The requirements are:

 On-The-Job Training

  • Provides planned, challenging work assignments.

  • Develops competencies in preparation for increased responsibilities.

 Rotational Assignments

  • Provides a broader understanding of the overall Agency mission.

  • One rotation completed during each year of the program.

  • Exposes intern to different organizations and personnel.

 Competency Building Activities

  • Core training

  • Educational allowance to support graduate coursework.

  • Technical training

 Assignment of Mentor

  • Provides career advice and guidance and assists in networking.

  • Selected from mid-level to senior-level managers.

The continued success of the intern program relies on strong communication between the mentor, supervisor and intern and fulfillment of program responsibilities. Ultimately, the success of each individual program is the intern's responsibility.

Positions are located throughout the U.S.; however, the majority will be located in the Northern Virginia area.
