Carbon dioxide samples are collected at Amundsen-Scott South Pole Station and sent to the National Oceanographic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA) in Boulder, Colorado. There has been atmospheric sampling at the South Pole since 1957, which has shown a continuous increase of carbon dioxide in the earth's atmosphere. Other atmospheric trace elements measured include methane, carbon monoxide, stable isotopic ratios of carbon dioxide and methane, aerosols, and halocarbons. In this photo Glen Kinoshita, NOAA, is holding a flask containing air collected at South Pole. This flask will be placed in the box in front of Glen, which will then be sent to Boulder.
