2003 Forum Report on Permissible Metric-Only Labeling Has Been Released

On November 6, 2003, the NIST Laws and Metric Group hosted a second forum on the Permissible Metric-Only Labeling effort at the Department of Commerce headquarters in Washington, D.C. The purpose of the forum was to bring together a coalition of manufacturers, packagers, exporters and importers, retailers and other interested parties to support a proposed amendment to the Fair Packaging and Labeling Act (FPLA) to allow permissible metric-only labeling.

Some of the key agenda items for discussion were developing a strategy for introducing the proposed FPLA amendment change to Congress, identifying industry spokespeople to represent the coalition, and identifying and addressing opposition to the amendment in industry.
