Each year after getting our budget allocation from Congress, NIDA establishes a funding plan implementing the NIH cost management guidelines in making research project grant awards. Below is a summary of the plan for FY 2004.
New and Renewal Research Project Grants (RPGs)
- Payline for RPGs is expected to be about the 20th percentile.
- Based on an analysis of available dollars and the number of highly competitive applications eligible for funding, NIDA expects that competing new and renewal non-modular awards will need to be reduced by an average of 10% from the requested budget level.
- Reductions will be made to modular grants only under the most unusual circumstances. Any cuts made will be in modular amounts.
- In accordance with NIDA Guidelines for Funding of Competitive Renewal Grants, renewal grants should not increase by more than 10 percent over the previous year funding.
Noncompeting RPGs
- Award at the level shown for FY 2004 on the last Notice of Grant Award.
